How it works

The ten dimensions of a date

A look at the rubric LoveJoy uses to help you reflect after a date — and why ten dimensions, not five stars.

Beyond the star rating

A five-star rating flattens a person. It says nothing about what was good or what was missing — and so it teaches you nothing.

LoveJoy uses ten dimensions instead. They are:

  1. Chemistry
  2. Conversation
  3. Kindness
  4. Curiosity
  5. Humor
  6. Honesty
  7. Presence
  8. Effort
  9. Boundaries
  10. Aftermath

Why ten

Ten is enough to be specific, few enough to remember. Each one maps to a question worth asking yourself: did I feel met?, did they listen?, did I lie to be liked?

How to use it

Don't treat it as a scorecard. Treat it as a mirror — the kind of quiet feedback you usually only get years later, in therapy.
